Withania somnifera ASHWAGANDHA Indian Ginseng

ASHWAGANDHA or Indian Ginseng is a low growing perennial plant reaching approx 90cm tom1m in height. Pale green flowers form into fruit which ripen orange red. Part of the nightshade family, it is also called poison gooseberry or  winter cherry. The root of the plant and the berry are both used medicinally and in Ayurvedic medicine for a wide range uses. In India and North Africa, the plant holds the same degree of prestige as ginseng does in China. Native to India and Nepal. It is cultivated in many parts of India. But is very seldomly available in Australia.

As with any medicinal plants. Please seek professional advice before using any part of this plant medicinally.

Ashwagandha thrive in warm, sheltered positions in the garden. Loving full sun, but they will tolerate part sun. And love a moist but well drained soil. Water regularly through the summer months, reducing water in Autumn and winter. They will tolerate rich, or poor soils. They can be grow very successfully it pots or in the garden.

We have a small batch of plants available in 140mm pots.

Our Molly loves this. Only thing is that it is a little too big for our Maltipoo, but she still tries to keep up with it.

So far my dog hasn’t destroyed it! And it’s been a month. So I call that a win. Plus he loves it.
